If you are in the market for one of these, then I’ll like to
congratulate you as you have done very well for yourself. The 2015 Audi A6 is a
classy refined German offering which would cocoon you in luxury and style. The
fine Napa leather is one of the best in the class. Fit n finish is top notch
with leather, wood and soft plastic everywhere. This feels and smells like an
expensive premium car. Audi has google
maps capabilities which again hangs out with the best in the business. Leg room
and head room is adequate to comfortably seat 4 adults and a possible 5th
one too. Trunk space is adequate with 45 Liters with the seats up and 60 liters
with the seats folded.
The A6 got a slight face lift in 2015 with more refined LED
headlights and break lamps which absolutely look gorgeous. It seems like
everyone looks at Audi when it comes to headlight design and then they simply
copy it. The understated looks on the exterior add to the entire classy feel
that the car offers. Audi offers a plethora of options when it comes to engine
choices. Starting with a humble 2 liter petrol with 180 HP and 170 lbft of
torque but I think you just have to step up to the 3 Liter supercharged engine
with 320 HP to really appreciate the driving dynamics this car offers. It’s a
big heavy luxury car, but it doesn’t drive like one. It’s nimble, corners very
well and is a joy to drive. The 4 driving modes allow you to choose the driving
style that best suits your mood. It won’t set your hair on fire with
performance but it was built to do that in the 1st place. If
performance is what you desire, you might want to look at the substantially
more expensive S6. There is a 3 liter diesel engine with 200 HP and a crazy 360
lbft of torque. This motor will be more efficient but won’t be as refined as
the petrol engines. You can option your
A6 as a front wheel drive or get that amazing Quattro all-wheel drive which
will tide you over those snowy winter months.
Now let’s talk about how much it’s going to cost you to call
one of these yours. The 2 liter begins at a modest $43,400 but I’ll spec out
the 3 Liter supercharged, the one that I am most fond of. It starts at $49,000.
For a car in this price point, you will want to add leather and navigation. But
now things start getting a little crazy. There is a 5 grand option to upgrade
to the premium Bang n Olsen music system and you have to be very rich or very stupid
to check that one. I simply don’t hear the 5 grand in that music system as the
base Bose music system is pretty good too. Then there is a 3 grand driver
assistance package with lane departure warning. I’ll leave that to you but if it were my
money, I would skip it. All in you are looking at $58,000 for a decently loaded
A6 which in my book is a fair deal. The google maps and other Wi-Fi hot spot
options are complimentary for the 1st 6 months but then you are
looking at $30 bump in your car payment if you want to continue having all that
good stuff. Not that it makes a huge difference but it’s something you should
be aware of.
As far as major competition is concerned there is the BMW
535i, Mercedes E350 and Lexus GS. It’s a question of personal preference as I
can’t say that one car is less than the other. The Audi surprisingly drives
better than the 535i, the Mercedes is super luxurious but I’ll seriously
consider the Lexus GS. Its fun to drive and 2nd to none as far as
refinement and luxury is concerned. I would suggest you to drive all of these
and figure out what best suits your requirements.
